There's a website called "The Real Cuba" out there somewhere, and it shows the beaches before and after the revolution, you see... Before, they were WONDERFUL! Nice, WHITE beaches! Now look! If you found blacks in current Cuba's beaches they are cuban servants, whores or foreigners. No cuban tourists are admited in Varadero in Comunist Cuba. I freely used to go to Varadero before comunism and yes, there were blacks and whites and all cubans, together with foreigners. It was a public beach even with dictator Batista. Castro brought apartheid to cuban lives.

Don't kid yourself. The "private" beaches have little to nothing to do with skin color, but rather with tourism vs. non-tourism. This tends to exclude most average Cubans since, surprise, they happen not to be tourists. But Cuba is a country with very free ability to move around, and indeed, many Cubans do explore their own country as tourists.

The answer: Atlantic City; they're segregated to a completely different city that you can SEE across the water, where the beaches are "public" and polluted with industrial and medical waste.

Cuba has much room to improve, and the system currently is not as equitable as it ought to be, no doubt. But let's not pretend it is any unusual state of affairs. At least Che didn't have to grant himself special permission to attend events because he was part black.

Segregation before Fidel was so bad that dictator Batista, a mulatto, could not join the exclusive social clubs in Havana. Now, since due to the blockade and other circumstances Cuba's main source of divisas is tourism, it's necessary to have areas to accommodate tourists in certain comfort that would not be possible if myriads of Cubans shared the resorts. This is similar to any other country financially strapped. And not dissimilar from the virtual segregation that money creates anywhere.
