Good Morning,
It is devastating to see what has happened in Peru. This is the last thing Peru needed; as a matter of fact, Peru's President, Alan Garcia had already declared many of Peru's departments under state of emergency after the cold spell on June 7, 2007. Now, not only has the death tolls risen but the effects of this earthquake have left cities in complete ruins. It us up to us, Peruvian natives or not, to make sure that these cities are reconstructed.

For now, New Jersey, US is taking a stance on this catastrophic event. Peruvians like myself, had already created a Clothe Drive (52,900) pounds of clothes to be sent to Huancavelica. We were doing this b/c of the cold spell. However, after the earthquake we cannot forget our brothers and sisters of Pisco, Chincha, or Ica. So we have decided to send clothes in the 40 foot container that will aid them as wel. In addition, the Peruvian Counsel of New Jersey will hold a telathon this week.

I have the opportunity to be part of one of their commissions, and all the money that will be raised will be used to reconstruct homes in the most affected areas.
I urge you all to help and to keep these people in our prayers. The results of this earthquake's magnitude was out of our hands and poverty is not self inflicted. We must remember that poverty is most of the time, the results of outside forces that allow it to happen.

El terremoto del pasado 15 de agosto fue realmente una experiencia que no se lo deseamos a nadie,el sufrimiento que se vive es extremo,se han perdido familias, materialmente se ha perdido gran parte de la ciudad sin contar el panico extremo por el cual mi país se encuentra en estos momentos

Sin embargo estos ultimos dias he estado leyendo una serie de comentarios de personas inescrupulosas nacionales e internacionales que nos agreden y se burlan del sufrimiento ajeno, con comentarios tales como, el Peru se merecia el terremoto, o burlas por la religiosidad mostrada durante el mismo, e incluso decir que fue un fenomeno extraordinario y que les gustaria visitar Peru para vivir algo parecido.Dudo mucho que nuestros hermanos de Ica, Pisco y Chincha esten pensando esto.
