These are historic times in Bolivia with Evo Morales, the country's first ever indigenous president, being sworn into office in January 2006. Many of the reasons for his election victory can be attributed to a growing resistance to the economic model that Bolivia has been following since the 1980s. Characterised by the large scale privatisation of state owned enterprise and opening up of domestic markets, the policy has been blamed for huge rises in unemployment and continuing poverty. Large scale protests against water and gas privatisations in particular fuelled Evo Morales' victory.
In 'Bolivia for Sale' Damian Lewis travels with Christian Aid to investigate the effects of privatisation in three key markets: water, gas and milk.

Why don't they dig the oil wells themselves? Oh yeah, they want the companies to come in and do it and steal the companies assets like in Venezuela.
You show socialists example after example of what socialism does and what it means but they don't care. Look at East vs West Germany, South vs North Korea...stop your whining, a right does not place an obligation on someone else so the right to running water is not a right.

Mi pais Vzla ha recibido el ingreso petrolero mas grande en la historia.10 anos con Chavez y se hunde en pobreza, crimen, ineficacia, desabastecimiento, crisis hospitalaria, mala educacion, carencia de vivienda, persecucion al libre pensamiento, restricion a la comunicacion, impunidad y corrupcion.

Yo sólo sé una cosa, los comunistas y los socialistas no destrozan y matan como lo hacen los neoliberalistas por el poder. Los movimientos de ultra derecha no han hecho más que mostrar cuan abominables pueden permitirse ser por un puñado de dólares. Prefiero a mi Venezuela con Chávez... y los que hablan pésido de nuestro país en el exteriro posiblemente no han tomado la inciativa jamás de salir de su propio barrio, donde por cierto, no son ejemplo de nadie.

Perdí la esperanza al ver que en 10 años su logro ha sido despilfarrar millones de dólares y hundir al país; Viaja y regala dinero, mientras matan a nuestros niñitos los deliquentes, o de hambre, o en los hospitales infectados.

Usted en su comentario me desprecia porque vivo en un barrio en Petare y no apoyo a Chávez como si yo no tuviese derecho a expresarme.
SI naci pobre a mucho orgullo! me gradué de piloto vendiendo arepas en el silencio mientras la gente como usted se reía de mi.
Estudie y trabaje duro logre una beca para estudiar en el exterior y aprendí 3 idiomas.
Hoy lloro la muerte de dos hijos gracias a la ineficacia de Chávez. Apenas sobrevivo gracias a él a quien apoyé con todo mi entusiasmo.

I remember once you said that the system of capitalism was so perfect, and I don´t doubt it´s got its points, but it is certainly not enough to offer humanity all the means it needs to grow, and certainly it can not be all that perfect mainly due to human condition. Even Keynes who created the bridge, in the universe of economy, between socialism and capitalism, stated that capitalism was the more advanced of all systems but it can also be a deadly friend when humans are not honest about it.

I think we can watch now all the systems fall appart, and maybe that will be the perfect ingredient for a real change in human conciousness towards its own divine and evil nature.

Yo, aunque no soy fanatica de Chávez, comprendí siempre esa frase desde otra perspectiva; la de Cambiar o Morir. Trabajar unidos para organizar comunidades sociales o permitir que el neoliberalismo del Imperio destruya sus esperanzas de transformación social.

yep I agree with you, but I think it is also the same in socialism, examples are overrated, that not only the right wing claims for power. For me capitalism is evolving thanks to socialism, it is clear that capitalism can raise countries, but it can't maintain them on top.

Estoy de acuerdo contigo deeplydisturbed, no hace falta ser de naturaleza analitica, o ser intelectual de las letras para comprender que lo que esta frase predica, para aquellos que creen y tienen como ideal el del socialismo, no es mas que aquellos quienes de verdad aman y pertenecen a su patria como su patria pertenece a ellos, y en este caso son fieles defensores y partidarios del socialismo, lo seran hasta la muerte.
A mi parecer, y creo que el de muchos, esta expresion, por que eso...

..es lo que es-- no mas ni menos, no es un mandato o una prediccion, es una forma de dejar por sentado una conviccion--, es una extencion de la expresion ''patria o muerte'' que de seguro muchos se familiarizaran con la misma, ya que resulta muy popular, y suele utilizarse para decribir la profundidad de una relacion, la incondicionalidad de la misma, cuando tienes un amigo 'patria o muerte' significa que habra lealtad hasta el final.

Saludos inteligenciaprimero, me gustaria felicitarte en un principio, por que si tu vida es como tu cuentas que fue, que la construiste con tus manos, y no solo eso si no que te superaste dia a dia con tu esfuerzo, eso es digno de admiracion.
En seguna instancia, quiero decir q lamento mucho el dolor que llevas a causa de esa perdida, eso es algo q realmente espero no comprender nunca, y es algo que la verdad no veo como alguien deba vivir, nadie deberia poder comprenderlo, tu y todos...

Por otra parte, lamento sea eso la razon por la que dejes de ver el significado de una revolucion, de la venezolana por el momento. Pero se que nada que hagas aliviara ese dolor, solo el tiempo te enseñara a lidiar con el, y mas q nada, se q culpar a alguien no los traera de vuelta, y mucho menos culpar al presidente. Si asi dejaste de creer en tus ideales, quiza nunca los tuviste realmente, pero no soy quien para juzgarlo.

The first has not been able to prove that it can really transform the cause of suffering in the consciousness of human beings. It`s freedom is based on the worship of money and the abuse of human passions. When the matters of the hearts have been put aside, the future will be dark, no matter how afluet the economy

On the other hand, comunism and socialism seem to stand for the return of idealism as a way to recover human dignity... But the results aren´t quiet accurate either. People forget how to stand up before freedom by themselves, and an exteme nationalism turns into hate as well...
The only thing that matters is the heart and it is also what´s really on stake.

exactly! this basically an struggle between both wings, one look for equality but freedom is set to boundaries, while the right fight for freedom, but inequality will exist. either of both this differences create somehow and equilibrium in society, being pragmatic is something I definitely don't have right now
