if you're buying a bag from a thrift store just for the hardware (clips, etc), doesnt that defeat the purpose of recycling? now you are throwing away a different thicker bag most likely made out of some synthetic material (like plastic)

You're right of course, but I think the point of that was to make the viewer think more creatively of what they could use. I know I recently revamped my backpack and cut those clips off and now I feel like I wasted them cause I could've used them for this. It's just to get you thinking :)

Yes you are because now that's that many less plastic bags going in the dump. Yes, the bag will eventually go in the dump one day but at least you got the most out of it. I just take all my bags to wal mart and put it in the recycling box there.

New idea #1 with the plastic bags. OK, this is not new but we had not seen it until recently in a class I hosted on making the bags. In the video we are sewing the different pieces of plastic together. The sewing steps can be dropped all together as all you need is an iron. By ironing the pieces together you're making a weld which is stronger than sewing. It works great, is more kid friendly and is more watertight. Have Fun! Brad

the bag itself is already two layers, the front part of the bag and the back. if you fold it over once it's four, and then folding it a second time would make it eight.
Really Cool Idea #2 ... ( 1 semana por bdelder42)
Really Cool Idea #2 OK, we have been trying for some time to put text and images on the plastic and my wife (Amanda) finally found an excellent solution. Simple iron-on t-shirt transfers work great! You can use an inkjet printer to transfer your image to the transfer paper and iron that image onto the plastic. You will need to let the iron-on cool more than normal after being applied, but it works great! Have Fun! Brad
But she started ... ( 1 semana por icanreadncount)
But she started with the bag cut open, then folded it back closed (which seems unnecessary to me-why cut it apart just to fuse it back together?). So she is using just 4-ply, not 8. Unless I'm missing something.

That's very cool. The material created looks similar to the material used for garden rubbish bags which is highly durable.
