Trailer for "On The Edge: The Femicide in Ciudad Juarez"

Enviado por: steev2300
Descripción del video:
On The Edge is a documentary covering the brutal murders of hundreds of poor young women in the border town of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, murders that have been repeatedly ignored and unresolved by police and governments since 1993, despite the continued and persistent efforts of family members and activists to obtain justice for the victims. Rather than provide an easy, murder-mystery style solution to the crimes, the film sets out to explain the social, cultural, and economic factors that have created this situation where the killings can continue, and continue to go unpunished. In addition to explaining the circumstances, On The Edge situates the Juarez killings in the context of wider political and economic trends, showing the audience that this is not just an isolated phenomenon in one far-off city, but a glimpse at a nightmarish future for much of the world, unless something is done to prevent it.
(58 minutes, 2006, in Spanish and English with English and Spanish subtitles)

its easy to say that but what are they to do bcarota? in our country we have a lot of rights and freedom but most poorer countries like that have hardly any at all. its hard to just leave the place if thats where they get money to live. people move there because of the work and thats mainly why. and the poorer people; especially women are discriminated against if they try and have a say about it all. there is not much they can do which is why this is so horrible

Seriously guys you all need to read up on this properly. The Juarez police, lawyers, judges and drugs cartell are the perpetrators. There is a possiblility that the services are bought by wealthy foreigners but the girls are kidnapped by police, held captive and released in the desert on the night they are to be hunted down and killed for sport.

Yes the film touches on that a bit. The numbers in the Guatemala femicide is about 10 times greater than in Juarez. Though it's not just on the border, many of the killings have been in Guatemala City.

Yes, it's true, as ael33 said, the government has basically bribed some people to cooperate and stop making a fuss about the situation, by giving them houses, cars, money, etc. I don't know if I would say anyone has "made millions" (if i'm translating right). And I don't think any of the interviewees in the film fall into this category. Finally, yes all these things you describe do happen sometimes, but none of it takes away from the incredible atrocity of the murdered women.

yes, a few women from the U.S. who evidently happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time in Juarez are amongst the dead. one from albuquerque, 7 from El Paso, 1 from Spokane, 1 from Wyoming... this is according to the book "Harvest of Women" by El Paso Times reporter Diana Washington Valdez.

thanks so much for the info. I'm gonna check out the book, I didn't know that American women had died there too. I thought maybe that was why the u.s authorities were not getting involved. makes you wonder why they were all over the Halloway story and people just don't know enough about what is going on in Juarez. I live in Albuquerque, i was surprised to find that the majority of people here have no clue, they have never heard of the killings! and we are only 4 hrs away!.....

I am so sorry to hear this. Juarez was a city of my childhood. Why are they being killed? The police are involved. Why don't men work in the maquiladoras? Why don't the employers help them. What can I do to help?

Is this the film that explains how American factories are to blame. because many of the women that were killed work for american factories I think one of them being GMC. and in order for the women to get to the factory they have to ride the factory bus which is driven by serial rapist which the factories hired out of the prisons.
