Four white lion cubs are forming part of an extensive white lion breeding program underway at a South African Park. For centuries rumours of mysterious white lions circulated in South Africa. Claims of sightings of the white lion started to surface in 1928. Scattered reports continued but confirmation that these animals were really white did not come until 1975 when a litter containing two white cubs was seen at Timbavati Game Reserve, adjacent to Kruger National Park. Several lions still survive from the original strain, all in captivity, and the breeding of white lions in various zoos around the world must be handled very carefully.

White lions are cute alright, but I think they may be the result of inbreeding like the tiger. You shouldn't be breeding them at all because the white gene is a double recessive gene that may cause all kinds of problems for these cats. I wouldn't support this type of breeding at all.

Actually there was this one person who had a pet lion but they had to put it in the wild. Then a couple years later the owner went to the lion, the lion recognized him i guess because it hugged him hahaha

God, white lions r so adorable. There were some born in the wild in Ingwelala, a game farm near the Kruger, but apparently a poacher shot the male lion in the pride and when a new dominant male comes in, he kills all the cubs to ensure different genes.

while conservation is okay for tigers and lions...we have to do it the RIGHT way. not in a way that is cruel for the animals or exploits them.
Breeding JUST to get the desired white colour is CRUEL and we must protest against this!

If you listen to the man he talks about how much money they cost because of their rare traits. Does this man care about saving species of lions or just creating a little troup of rare white lions he can parade around?
Where is their mother? Doesn't look like there is much stimulation for these cubs.

I agree. In addition, breeding for a specific trait can enhance genetic defects. There are certain dog breeds that tend to have various genetic defects that can cause them to suffer throughout their lives.
They ARE cute though!
