not sure about the actual way in this video but the piece is in the permanent collection at the MIT Museum in Cambridge, MA and there it's powered by two copper flexible contacts which drag on 2 live rails on the ground. it also has this awesome turntable mechanism that cause it to reverse direction and walk back and forth all day. An in person visit is highly recommended.
