Descripción del video:
A court will decide whether
Rios Montt will face genocide charges.   He was in power from 1982 to 1983 - one of the bloodiest periods of Guatemala's 36-year civil war. Al Jazeera's David Mercer travelled to a remote village to meet a survivor of the violence.

You don't seem to have any idea of the vast number of war criminals in Central and South America, as well as, on a number of Islands in the area, many of which were
NOT sponsored by the CIA, or resulting from US intervention. You can change the subject, but that is meaningless with regard to the war criminals in the Continent and areas mentioned above..

This is quite amazing considering Rios Montt's former power, which he ascribed to his evangelical faith and sense of duty. Jim Handy's "Gift of the Devil", a history of Guatemala, is excellent. Worth noting, when Jimmy Carter imposed a military embargo against the junta, Israelis took up the slack, training, arming and, in some instances, ferrying troops by helicopter from village to village. Guatemalans tell
me when Reagan took office, a shiver went thru the country; Reagan re-armed the junta

I have been to Guatemala towards the end of the civil war. The fear in the eyes of those living there was palpable. We visited an orphanage full
of the children of the "disappeared", and when we travelled were surrounded by soldiers with machine guns. It was a very brutal time. One haunting and insightful quote I read at the time was "beauty cloaks Guatemala the way music hides a scream". To move forward Guatemala needs to reconcile
its past.

@mispistoleros: There was some substantial pipeline and covert aid from the US during Carter's "embargo." Between 1978 and 1980 the US sent 8.5 million in military assistance to Guatemala, which was substantial money for the Guatemalan military. This was immediately followed by the 3.2 million sale of jeeps and trucks in Reagan's first year in office and the aid provided in the following years. In reality, the US was always there to project arms, even in
 the case of Israel.
The death toll ... ( 1 year ago por nukeseeker)
The death toll under Rios Montt was more likely in the range of 70,000; human
rights groups reported some 3,000 deaths monthly. A minimum of 18,000 documented state killings occurred in 1982 alone in Guatemala.
