Article 373 of the Honduran Constitution states only Congress can make changes to the Constitution. Article 374 states it is illegal to change certain parts of the Constitution or rewrite the entire document.

I was not aware of that, thank you.From what I've read, Michelletti did try to violate the Constitution. He should have been punished but he was not. Perhaps Michelletti is acting hypocritically but that does not change what Zelaya intended. The poll Zelaya was trying to hold was not illegal but the possible result, changing Presidential term limits, is. Removing Zelaya from the country was extreme but I believe removing him from power was justified.

Is Zelaya needed? Yes, we need him to keep on taking a major dump on our economy and the country in general, as he was doing for the last years. You can't speak for all Hondurans, I don't want that idiotic jackass as my president anymore.

By the way, before Zelaya was overthrown, there were about 2 drug-planes crashing on the northern coast per week... Since June the 28th, there haven't been any crashes =/

The constitution doesn't prohibit a referendum. In fact, if Zelaya wanted to change the constitution (without reforming the Presidential period) he could have done it through the process described in our constitution. The only articles that can't be reformed without an assembly, which is what he wanted, are the ones on Territory, Form on Government and Alternation of Power (that is, alternating presidents, and each president only be allowed once in power).

While Zelaya wasn't overwhelmingly popular according to polls Micheletti is even less so. What concerns me is that both appointed members of Batallion 3-16 (a death squad) as officials in their government. I've also seen allegations of Micheletti being involved in the drug bussiness. There is also the issue of Micheletti's possible hypocrisy given his call for the suspension of certain articles (373-375) to tuen the congress into a constituent assembly.

No me digan que micheletti es la solución?... Si el ha hecho muchos actos de corrución y se ha sabido desd mucho tiempo... Si mel hizo agun crimen por que lo tuvieron que sacar a la fuerza y xpatriarlo violand un claro articulo que dic q ningun hondureño deb ser xpatriado...? Good news though, Honduras elected a new president named Porfirio Lobo in November. Is this the first you've heard of it? That's because our media has not cared to report a win for democracy, but raced to not only report but demonize a loss for socialism.
