Nick Sanders has sent another instalment from his amazing Parallel Worlds round the world ride as he becomes the first person to cross the Altoplano in Bolivia on a Yamaha R1.
The roads are so rough on the 14,000ft pass that the exhaust fell off. He managed to fix it and sent us this video report when he got to the other side.

wow thats crazy but im sure he has a support van following him man all that sand makes me cringe when i think about working on it and the sand acting as a blender for the parts poor R1.....after all that i would just swap the chain and sprockets cause jeez all that wear cant be good for it

He doesn't have a support van but he does meet up with people as he goes round. The majority of the trip is done on his own though.

looks like something i'd do on my yzf600r. then again i live in a county with like 400 miles of dirt roads so i'm used to adverse conditions on a sports bike. BUT this video makes me miss my KL250 Super Sherpa, i could carry a backpack and rear mount full of gasoline and a spare set of tires and ride that wasteland forever :)

Hey i got an R1 in Cochabamba ,Bolivia and i ride it every time i go there on vacation.
R1 is the best sport bike out there!
