Julie Covington sings this version of the song from the 1976 Broadway play "Evita". I tried to capture the power and the beauty of this song with the power and the beauty of the sea and the tranquility of sailing upon it. This was filmed at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, CT on Long Island Sound.

My mum loved this song and she bought this as a 7 inch single and she almost never bought records. She died of cancer, it kills me when julie sings.... ' theres nothing more I can think of to say to you..'..' great song, great singer. I dont know what relevance to the song the video has but I like it . Very Baudelaire.

As stated in my description of this version of the song "I tried to capture the power and the beauty of this song with the power and the beauty of the sea & the tranquility of sailing upon it". When the commercial for play "Evita" came out, they had a train traveling across the Pampas with this song playing in the background. It conveyed the images of both power & beauty in my mind as I watched the advertisement. This is truly an outstanding version by Julie & I hope it evokes happy memories.

I can't be 100% sure but I remember an interview on the Radio with LW in which it was stated that this song and role was written with Julie in mind.

Thanks for the video. I remember hearing this version on the radio when I was a kid. I thought it was a beautiful song and the singing was perfect! I don't know the technical terms, but Julie Covington's voice has a wonderful purity and clarity combined with depth and richness, that's just .. perfect. Her diction and timing in this song is beautiful. It just couldn't be sung any better.
Have also been listenng to her rendition of 'In My Life'. Sublime. She may be my favoutite female vocalist.

Thnx for your comment. I love Julie's voice and her version above the roughly dozen other versions I have of this song. I have not her version of "In My Life" which is a Beatles song I love.
If you like Julie, you might also like Louise Tucker, especially her song, "Midnight Blue".

DS, thanks for the suggestion. Listened to Louise Tucker. Nice, but a bit opera-lush for me. Julie Covington's voice has a natural, unaffected clarity which is what I really like.

What an injustice that if you enter the title of this song into the search engine this is nowhere near the start. I've heard another version of this by Julie Covington, which has different and / or additional lyrics, does anyone know which release it's on?

The first time I heard any version of this song it was madonna and I thought it sucked.. then I heard Sinead O'Connors version and I love it.. I like the original too.. I actually like Sineads version better because I think she is better at that "fragile" sound, in the original I heard some things that were too "hard" in what I thought were the wrong spots for it.. kinda jolted me..if I were sitting in a room listening to this with you I could explain better.

Sinead does have quality to her voice but her delivery at certain points in the song missed it a bit. I heard her 2003 live performance rather than a studio version which is often better when done by most singers. Perhaps her studio recording is better than her live performance.
