You're generalizing. The portuguese don't dive more than the others, it's just people want to say that they dive, when they actually dribble past a defender and draw a foul.

romania presented itself very well. a deserved draw with france and shouldve beaten italy. and the dutch were out of this world in the group stage. bad lcuk with the draw.

OK, but you said that the portuguese can't wait to draw a foul. They don't wait, they DO dribble past a defender. Then they are most of the times pulled or hit. Of course they do dive sometimes, but not as much as you think. With Croatia it's pretty much the same :P

i meant all southern-europeans, not just portugal.
and very often the dribble is just to draw a foul, strangling the ball by dribbling in directions that are not always in the direction of the goal.
like this Srna guy, he dribbles in a circle at least 2 times a game...until someone fouls him (he's a great free kick taker and does this on purpose)

Sure, dribbling isn't used only to shot to the goal. In fact, it's mostly used to avoid opposition (which shows great skill) and cross to a team-mate in the area so that they try to score.

czechs and poles had the worst qualifiers in the last 10 years, both teams had already shown signs of decline at the EUROs, disappointing heavily, unlike romania. it wasn't just one team that beat them, it was three teams: slovakia, slovenia and n ireland

Romania didn't dissapoint? They didn't win a single game in Euro 2008. OK, that was with France, Italy and Netherlands, I can understand... but WC qualifiers! Just look at Romania's results there!

@borussiadortmund2 little correction: they ended THIRD in the group in Euro 2008, not bottom, who were France, and they didn't suck in Euro 2008 qualifiers, they won their group. But I agree with the rest.

I was talking about Romania's world cup 2010 qualifying campaign which was pathetic. Still, I don't want to underestimate the Romanians as I still believe that they've got a good team despit the fact that they haven't played at their best possible level for quite a while now.

geographically, if you divide europe horizontally in two halves, portugal would be in the south, of course. also, portugal is considered a mediterranean country because of its culture and climate, and the mediterranean is connected with the term "southern europe"
