dont know if this dude is innocent or not but here in Nicaragua the case was played by the media as if Volz was Satan himself. The TV news broadcasts convicted him since the very start and the dat he left a newsman on channel 8 even mentioned him probably making jokes about how you can murder someone and then pay some money to get free. He should try to clear his name with people here perhaps. Even if from the US

Eric was finally released, but is currently in hiding until he can leave the country because of death threats against him.

Comment Part I:
What an odyssey! A brutal, senseless murder. The real culprit given full immunity. An innocent man accused. A bullet-proof alibi dismissed by a scared/corrupt/racist/stupid (pick one, or two) judge. Mob violence. An unjust conviction. Intentionally cruel prison treatment. Widespread media propaganda. Wild, almost comical claims (Eric's mother tried to bribe Doris' mom with $1M, etc.). A year in hell. Sudden justice from men of truth.

Comment Part II:
More comedy (delay tactics: "The release papers were stapled wrong."). A prosecutor who invents new Nica law on the spot (that an accused must be imprisoned pending an appeal to the Nica Supreme Court). A strong, valiant mother reentering the lion's den. More from the men of truth. A final flight to freedom. Assassins suspected. Home.

Comment Part III:
The future: A book? A movie? Perhaps, but most importantly -- a strong clear voice, seared by real-life experience, that fights for injustice everywhere until his last breath.
Everything happens for a reason.

Nicaragua doesn't envy anyone, If you see your comrad was liberated, because Nicaragua's justice is one of the most fair in the world and their security is excellent. In the U.S. many innocent people have been put to death penalty and sometimes it might be for racism, one must put feet upon the terrain to realize the truth. My wish is that Nicaragua becomes strong economically again, and I'm sure it will.

I just wish the U.S. law would learn to be more equal with people, just like the law of my home land. Nicaragua is and will always be a good example for many nations. Justice always prevail in my homeland, believe it or not, but right here is your prove.

Eric Volz is coming home! I just read in our local Placerville newspaper- the Mountain Democrat that "he was freed on December 21, 2007- from a Nicaraguan prison hospital where he was being treated for kidney stones. He then was driven by police-escorted ambulance to sign his release papers, then rushed to the airport. He left Nicaragua at 2:45 pm local time. His release came five days after a court ruling by a Nicaraguan court to reverse the 2006 murder conviction."
mutediseas is right ... ( 9 meses por vozdloco)
mutediseas is right, Most of Nicaraguan people don't treat U.S. Americans bad, Everyone who visits that country can tell you, you can't compare Costa Rica with Nicaragua, Nicaragua has the lowest crime rate in the americas and that is an example of how civilized these people are, Nicaraguans are noble and hospitable people, the same treatment they give to their own people, that's the treatment they give to pilgrims.

The only one that should have to clear their name is the crooked judge that convicted him. That woman belongs in prison.

I too am from nicaragua. I am very proud of my country and heritege but you have to understand that not all cases will be fair vertics even in the most equal country. And you must not say that some one is or isn't guilty if untill you've seen the all of the evidence.

It's disgusting, the injustice of it all, it
reeks of lies from the authorities there whom
seem blind to any form of human decency of fair play! What makes a man is his heart not the liver of his lies.

I'm Nicaraguan and I just want to say that I'm very glad Eric is now free. I feel really bad just looking at the video as well as browsing through other websites with similar info regarding his case. There are people that are wrongfully accused everywhere in the world, especially here in the U.S. We see it in the news all the time. Don't judge Nicaragua people in general for the stupidity and ignorance of few.

As a Nicaraguan the i am this whole thing make me very shameful of how the system is in my own country.. I fell so bad about this guy, and now that he is free i feel better about it. But i don't want people from other country to think that, thats how Nicaraguan are. I can tell you that not everyone is like the stupid judge who didn't bother to see the evidence that this guy was not even in the city where the crime happen.
Sorry Volz family, i am glad your son is back home with his love ones.

Some of you don't seem aware of the current status - An appeals court overturned the conviction on December 17, 2007[1] and Volz was released from prison on December 21, 2007.[2] He left Nicaragua immediately and went into hiding in an unknown location outside Nicaragua over concerns for his physical safety.

Dude, It's okay....everyone out there who doesn't know. This is a fairly old piece of film of Eric Volz in Nicaragua. He was eventually released from prison in Nicaragua...The US gov. got involved and he was freed shortly after he was convicted; he did spend some 81 days I believe in the Nicaragua Prison though. But, this is an excellent eye opener to folks going over there to visit for any length of time...think about it.
