Kelsey Smith Briggs lost her life before the age of three due to Child Abuse at the hands of Mike Porter.
It is a Tragic story but one that must be shared.Hopefully Kelsey's story will touch your heart and you will be willing to step up to the plate and help children who can't help themselves.

Kelsey Smith-Briggs was born in Oklahoma on December 28,2002 after her parents Lance Briggs and Raye Dawn Smith were divorced. Lance had abused Raye Dawn and caused their first child to miscarry after he punched her in the stomach. Witnesses say she had many black eyes throughout their marriage as well.
At the end of 2004 Raye Dawn Smith started dating a man named Michael Lee Porter and Kathie Briggs, Kelsey's paternal grandmother, got visitation. Bruises started appearing on Kelsey after her visits with the Briggs.
The first reported incident of suspected child abuse regarding Kelsey was made on Jan.17,2005.
Kelsey Smith Briggs grandmother Kathie Briggs was granted custody Jan.24,2005.
Raye Dawn Smith married Michael Lee Porter on April 18,2005.
On May 3,2005 Kelsey was taken out of her grandmother's care by OKDHS because Kelsey's legs were broken while in her care and she and Lance became suspects in the abuse.
May 4,2005 Kelsey was moved to her maternal Grandmother Gayla Smith. Kelsey had lost weight and hair while with Kathie and she thrived with Gayla.
The two instances of argued abuse that happened to Kelsey from January 2005 to the day she died were the abrasions and bruises on her bottom in January 2005,and the two spiral breaks to her legs in April 2005. She had been with Kathie, Lance, and Raye Dawn on both occasions. June 15,2005 Judge Craig Key sent Kelsey back to her mom and stepfather. Mike Porter was not a suspect in the abuse until after her death and DHS said they the only person they didn't want Kelsey returned to was Kathie Briggs.
Kelsey was visited by five agencies on almost a daily basis.
Her biological father, Lance Briggs, was in Iraq from the end of May to August or early September. He was undergoing care for either his addiction to pain pills or because he wife was leaving him at a treatment facility in Fort Benning, GA.
On October 11,2005 Kelsey was sexually assaulted and murdered by her Stepfather Micheal Lee Porter.Raye Dawn left to pick up Mike's daughter from school which took 36 to 50 minutes while Kelsey napped. Two weeks later Porter was arrested on first degee murder, later, the charge of sexual assault was added when a second autopsy confirmed a tear in her rectum and vagina and child porn was found on Mike's computer.
Kathie Briggs teamed up with Mike when he was released on bond and emailed, called him, and met with him; all to have Raye Dawn charged with Kelsey's murder. Raye Dawn was charged with enabling child abuse after Kathie harassed and threatened the DA into charging her with something.
On February 2,2007 a plea negotiation was entered and approved by the Briggs family.
The stepfather plead guilty to a reduced charge of Enabling Child Abuse and received 30 years in prison.
He has no possibility of parole for 25.5 years. He will never have to register as a sex offender. The DA wanted to take him to trial, but Lance Briggs asked the DA to offer the plea.
Kelsey's mother Raye Dawn Smith went on trial July 9,2007.She has since been found guilty of enabling child abuse,she was sentenced by a tainted jury to 27 years in prison. She will get an appeal.
The District Attorney Richard Smothermon says she knew,or should have known about Kelsey's abuse. She thought the abuse was coming from the Briggs and once Kelsey was away from them, she thought she had a medical condition. She did not know Mike Porter is a pedophile.
